Opening attachments with widows mail

Have just changed to Windows mail. When I try to open attachments I get the
following message, "This file does not have a program associated with it
for performing this action. Create an association in the Set associations
control panel. Can someone please tell me how to get to the correct page and
how to change these settings. I can follow instructions but not very
computer savy!!! It seems to be pif files that are affected. How do I
specify a programme for certain types of files? Thanks for your help. Cate

Does this happen with all attachments or just some (e.g., PPS files)? Did
you install IE8? Is the computer fully-patched at Windows Update?
