Open unknown file types

When i open file types that are unkown to vista the launch window for
programs pop up. And of course none of the programs there support the file,
so i press the browse button, find the right program and press ok. Then it
closes the browser window, and nothing happens. The program do not show on
the list, and the address line is empty. Also if the program that support the
file is on the list, and i want vista to open the file with that program
every time. I check the "always use this program" button then press ok, and
it opens in that program, but it does not always open it. as soon as i close
the program and want to open the file again, i have go through it all over
again.

Hi, Aron.

Are these "exotic" file types, or just the run-of-the mill types that we all
use? Are they Microsoft Office file types? (Some examples might help.)
Are you an Administrator, and logged on as such?

Yes they are exotic, but i do got the right programs for them. And i am
administrator and logged on as one. Running Vistra Homebasic 32bit.
Exampel of files i want to open is .PTB which is used by Powertab.
This whole thing was not a problem in windows xp, and it shouldnt be in
vista eigther. Is this a bug that occures on everybodys vista, or just mine?

See if registering Powertab using this problem helps.

Registering programs with the "Open With" dialog:
