one comp can't see the other - system error 53 "network path was not found"

Q

q_q_anonymous

Comp A can see comp B but not vice versa.

When Comp B tries to see A, with \\192.168.0.1 it says "network path
was not found". If I do net use \\192.168.0.1 it gives a more
complete error message, sayign "system error 53".

Both comps run Win XP pro Sp2
firewall off
Both can ping each other
Both have "client for microsoft networks" listed
Both have the option of 'enable netbios over TCP/IP'
Both have guest accoutns turned on and enabled
Both have local policies that Allow access to Everyone and do not Deny
access to Guest
Both have 1 identical user account with the same username and 'full
name' It happens to use a blank password and both user accoutns are
memboers of the Administrators group.

Q

q_q_anonymous

both have simple file sharing
both on workgroup called WORKGROUP

Both have under administrative tools..local security settings.. local
policies...security options... Network Access - authenticate as guest.

Q

the computers names are ChieftecXP=192.168.0.1 and Organisa=192.168.0.2

Chieftec can see Organisa. But not vice versa.

Regarding the ipconfig /all data, i have 2 probs with that. When I
paste it frmo notepad it comes out double spaced. I also have VMWARE
installed, so the VMWARE network adaptors make the ipconfig /all
longer.

as mentinoed, I have VMWARE adaptors, so the listing was v. long. So I
cut out some sections of ipconfig /all, leaving only those 2 sections
"Windows IP configuration" and "Ethernet Adaptor Local Area
Connection". Since those are the only 2 areas mentinoed on your site.

To get aronud the ipconfig /all double spacing problem, I found that
opening the dumped output in MS Word and then optionally pasting into
notepad caused it to come out ok. The problem was opening the dumped
file in notepad. Hope that helps others.

Well, to start, Chieftecxp has IPV6 aka Teredo Tunneling. IPV6 won't support
Windows Networking.

Q

q_q_anonymous

I just uninstalled IPV6 .

I still get the same error
btw, IP properties are correctly on enable NETBIOS over tcp/ip.

Q

q_q_anonymous

err, it's ok now. It seems I mistakenly thought that the IP Address of
chieftecxp was 192.168.0.1, but it was 192.168.0.3
It used to be 192.168.0.1 but I changed my router and it must have
become .3

I guess when I was pinging 192.168.0.1 I was pinging my router !!!

thanks
