OL2002 Auto Address Fill-in Issue

R

Robert

When I start typing an address in the To: field, OL2002 completes the
address for me. The problem is that it keeps filling it in with OLD
information :-( I have updated the information in the conacts folder, and
the Outlook Address Book/New Contacts (the only two areas when I have any
such info). But, Outlook still finds the old info somewhere and uses it to
complete the address. Whare is that information coming from, and how can I
delete/update it?

Thanks

Use the arrow keys to highlight the address you don't want and press Delete.

Not really :-( The advice was to highlight and delete the unwanted address,
which of course will re-appear next time I start typing the receipients
name.

Oh, well.

We wrote a utility that will enable you to edit the NK2 (Autocomplete)file.
Your autocomplete data isn't stored in your contact folder, this is the
source for your confusion. You and thousands like you (including me a
couple of years ago) couldn't figure out where it was stored. Once we
learned this, the challenge was to be able to edit the informaiton.

If you're interested, you can purchase our utility at
www.dcs-imaging.com/products.htm. The product is called Owtlook
Autocomplete File editor. This software comes in two versions, standard for
stand alone installtions, and Professional for users who operate in an
Exchange environment. The former sells for 19.95 while the latter sells for
24.95.

We guarantee what we sell, so if there is a problem, please let us know.

Not reproducible. The only time that happens is if you have only a single
name in the suggested name list.
The Delete key works.

May be you are solving a different problem ;-) Here, let me describe in
detail...

(a) move the cursor to the "To:" field and start typing "Mike Gru"
(b) "Mike Grunmann" is filled in automatically.
(c) That's what I want, so I press the Tab key
(d) Mike Grunmann ([email protected]) is filled in
(e) That's the right name, but an old address. It's not in my New Contacts
address book, or in my Personal Folder Contacts, so I press DEL and type in
the name an new e-mail address.
(f) Nest time I try to send a message to the same person, I have to repeat
the process. The old address keeps coming up.

So, at what point would you like me to hit the Delete key, that you say
works? Trust me, I *want* it to work :-((

You must hit the Delete key before you Tab out of the field. Once you've

You must highlight the suggestion from the dropdown list by using the arrow

I appreciate your help, I just can't do what you suggest. There is no
dropdown list with suggestions. If you noticed in my description, as I type
part of the name, a single name is filled in with part of it, the filled-in
part, highlighted. If I press DEL at that point, the highlighted part of
the name gets deleted. There is no other place in the sequence to press
delete :-(

If you notice in my reply I told you that was an issue in Outlook 2002 (but
not Outlook 2003). Simply create another entry that will match closely
enough to appear in the cache, then you can delete the other entry once you
have a dropdown. Or just wait until you have a robust enough cache to have
more than a single entry for every name you type.

Probably my bad. There are several concurrent threads on this issue and it
may have been one of the others where I drew the distinction between Outlook
2002 and 2003. What I was trying to point out was that single entries in a
suggested names list require a workaround to delete Outlook 2002. I did not
know that that clunky workaround had made its way into a KB article.

Brian,

If you find it, rename it as opposed to deleting it. That way, you can
always get back to that data later if you find that you need it.
