Offline Data File

We have a Windows Small Business Server 2003 with Exchange in place.

One of the workstations using Outlook 2003 wants to save the offline data
file under the user's documents, so when the user logs off, it takes forever
b/c it wants to synchronize the file to the server. How can I tell Outlook
to save the offline data file somewhere else??

Thanks for your help!

No need to. The ost-file is by default saved to a subfolder of;
C:\Documents and Settings\%username\Local Settings\

This folder isn't written back to the server during logoff.

But during log off the computer shows how it is synchronizing the file to the
server; therefore, taking a long time!!

Then it is not located on its default location. Where is it located?

Are we talking about a pst-file or an ost-file? Offline Data File implies
ost but why would you move that to the home directory? The whole purpose of
that file is that it is a LOCAL copy to REDUCE network traffic. This way you
would INCREASE it.

Either way; pst-files and ost-files should never be connected to from a
network share. This configuration is not recommended or supported by
Microsoft. These files were designed to operate locally. The proper way is
to keep these file locally and in case of a pst-file you can make frequent
back-ups to a network drive by using the PST Backup Addin from Microsoft
(free download).

To relocate a pst-file disconnect it through File-> Data File Management...
Close Outlook and move the file. Start Outlook and connect to it by File->
Open-> Outlook Data File...

We are talking about the ost file, and that is exactly what I want to do. I
want to relocate it to cut down on network traffic. How do I do that??
