OE Addr. Book

Ok folks here is one for you. I just got yet another call from this woman
who thinks I am her personal pc tech. Every little hicup of the pc she calls
me to fix it. Now granted she doesn't know a lot about pc's but she acts
like she does. Also she doesn't see well, but watching her you'd never know
it. Anyway, what I know is limited. I am no tech. I do this as a bit of a
hobby.

Anyway, today's problem. Somehow all of the sudden her OE add. book is blank
(empty). This is even supposed to be the case with what she has on a CD? She
said all she did was go to save it. I don't know if that means to the CD or
what.
I know there is an WAB file in the OE Folder. My question I guess, before
having to look at this machine tomorrow, is does Windows keep a copy of the
Addr. book anywhere else? I did a search on my pc and didn't see a copy.

Any help is much appreciated. TIA...

Hello Larry,

I've heard of an issue of the Address Book showing blank if there are
more than 1,000 entries. Is this a possibility?

Afa I know the most she has is a couple dozen. My *guess* is she did
something (which would *never* happen) <g>.
What I don't understand is what happened to her disc copy? Maybe she
overwrote it w/an empty file. I don't know.

Thanks for the link. I will check it out tomorrow or Wed.
I'll lyk if I find a good copy.

Ok Bill,
I finally got to see the troubled pc. What she id I have No idea. I can find
NO good copy of WAB.
Now she wants to back it up. I see you can export it, but it looks like just
to a MS prog.
She wants to back it up to disc. What is the easiest way to do this.
She is 1 of those people that figures b/c there is an option to do something
it s/b done<g>.
She doesn't understand a Windows pc is a beast unto itself...lol
Thanks again.

I thought the address book was corrupted (empty)?

But to answer your question, yes you can do a
File > Export > Address book (wab).. (then browse to folder of choice)

Bill, As I said I don't know what she did to it. My guess is she messed it
up and lost it trying to copy it to a floppy disk or something. Afa
exporting the addr. book, that will work for a disc (floppy or RW) right/

You can export it to any drive:\folder you wish.

Just to keep it simple, I would export it to My Documents. However, if
it's corrupt, it probably won't do any good, (and if so) and your best
bet would be to locate the backup and see if it is sane.

Again, see this link for locating the backup.

There's a good chance the path to the backup file is:
C:\Documents and Settings\<HerName>\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\<HerName>.wab~
