"ntldr is missing" on clean XP sp2 install

I have already wiped out the hard drive, starting fresh. Yes, I already know
my Bios is out dated, but to no one's fault but my own, it's too late to back
up now. I am getting "ntldr is missing" error. I have already tried copying:

d:\i386\ntldr c:\
d:\i386\ndetect.com c:\

to the root directory, but am told "access denied".
Any ideas?

Hi,
I may be able to help. My computer is running better than before and I
recently had an NTLDR is missing message on a blank screen straight after
the computer was switched on.
I had Seagates Disk Wizard already burned to a boot CD.
Trying to load Windows or reinstall Windows form the installation CD did
not work. I received the message there was no hard drive installed after I
got to accept the Eula in Windows XP Home Edition.
I booted from the Disk Wizard CD and formatted the hard drive for 9 hours.
This method will return the state of the hard drive to as near to its
original new state as is possible...I think this so but you may like to have
someone confirm the truth of this statement.
Also I think the NTLDR file ins in the Seagate software.
Then I was allowed to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition SP2 ok. It has been
going very well for about 4 days now.
Just tonight I have noticed one or two web pages do not want to close and
some smaller features in IE7 do not want to work. These were things that
were happening before the computer crashed then reported the NTLDR file
missing. However I remember Windows telling me in a small window to insert
the installation cd to replace some files that were missing. Inadvertently I
closed the ...sob sob...little window...stop laughing...
