Behind Vistas shiny new Interface there are running hundreds of hidden tasks
and services.
Tablet-PC input service is running, expecting any minute you could use a pen
instead of a mouse, regardless that your PC most likely is no Tablet, but a
normal Laptop or PC..
Time-Synchronizers,Windows Defender scanning the content of the Data in RAM
and of course the Desktop Search and it is indexing all your folders
silently, the same appplies to the Defrag Utility that now starts regulary
hidden behind the scenes and is arranging data on your disk.
Performance-indicator for all OS componebts are measuring data, the NT
system itself is logging what the hell and you have assitants to report
errors , solve Problems and the like.
Also the new Superfetch loads you allday used programs into the RAM of your
machine, regardless if you intend to use them..
Solution : buy more RAM ( with more than 2 GB it is ok to have all
running )and a even faster Cpu than the recommended 1 GhZ
and/ or get used to NT-services and how to configure the Defaults to your
personal needs ( I could deactivate over a dozen for me ), learn how to
tweak Vistas Resource hunger down by disabling some of those stuff.
At MS Website there is a tool exctrlst.exe which lets you disable the
performance-ghosts running all time.
With Tweakvi ( freeware) you can do great "magic" to performance
the rest is handwork.. like I said - NT-Serives, but that needs a bit
knowledge in what is safe to disable and what not.
to see things speed up instantly - do right click "Computer", go "advanced
Options" and tell Vista to "best perfomrance" . this will disable the new UI
and trim the Optics to what shall resemble Windows 95 look, that safes the
first 50 or so MB in RAM ..
Windows - Search you can set in folder options to not use the index, but let
search file-names alone, that speeds up also and makes the running index
service obsolete.
Every "disablement" of course has its pros and cons..
You just bought a new Windows only to reduce its power and let it look like
a ten year old OS.. anyhow that is the only way for slower Pcs now.
