on the right side of my taskbar [notification area] I cannot access the
running processes by left click - right click works - I can pull up programs
by opening them thru the program menu but not from the tray. I have tried
system restore and uninstalling new programs with no luck -

- any ideas?

That's normal. Exactly what works depends on the program, but usually
there is no way to access them other than by *double*-clicking or
right-clicking.

I have had VISTA for just over a year and you definitely access the
notification area with a left click - right clicking brings up the task bar
menu. You do need to double click to open the programs showing there - What I
am saying is I cannot do this - if I rest the cursor on the icon I get no
pop-up balloon - I was told there was a hotfix for this problem but have been
unable to locate it. To make it more irritating the calendar/clock works
fine [by left clicking]

I cannot access the some programs there even opening the programs directly
- some will open when the program is selected form the program menu

I should add this means I cannot disconnect a USB device from the
notification area - I have several devices and so this is a real problem - I
know I can do it thru My Computer but that is a hassle when it should work
from the NA in one click
