Notification Area in the System Tray Gone

I restarted my computer after returning from a trip and I noticed that the
"Notification Area" in the System Tray was completely gone. Not just all the
icons but the arrows to the left as well. I do still have the clock.

When I right click the "System Tray" and click on "Properties" the area
below "Show Clock" is "grayed out".

I have tried restarting the computer with both a cold and warm start hoping
to get the Notification Area back without results.
I cannot find anything on the net on how to restore the Notification Area.

You might try these reg fixes. The first looks like a permissions
setting, so I doubt it'll help.

294. Hide or Show Notification Area Icons
