NOTICE: Firefox users...

Mozilla just released security and stability updates to versions of
Firefox. Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.2 and 1.5.0.10 have been released [1].

If you've got Firefox set to check for and install updates
automatically, you'll find it won't work properly due to a Vista-related
bug. It checks, downloads the update and notifies you to install, but
the installation will fail without notice [2].

I know of two ways around this:

1). Close Firefox. Right click on it's shortcut icon and select "run as
administrator". When you get Firefox up and running go to the help menu
and select "Check for updates". Follow the prompts from there. After
Firefox has closed and restarted close it again and re-start as a normal
user.

2). Do a full install of the latest version over the previous version [3]

There's an update for Fire Fox but I don't see one for Thunder Bird,
either using the update feature in Thunder Bird or going to Thunder
Bird's home page.

Scott,

Double NOTICE for Vista users.

Do NOT *ever* install Firefox and Vista will never experience conflicts.

The best method for preventing user induced troubles and conflicts while
using Windows Vista; keep that in-secure nightly-build crap as Firefox far
away from Vista.

What you have factually accomplished; corrupted and polluted our worlds most
state-of-the-art OS, Vista.

Question for you; would you install Yugo parts inside a new Rolls Royce and
then complain how the new Rolls Royce no longer properly functions?

According to your "logic", one shouldn't install anything that isn't
made by Microsoft? If so you are sooooooooooooo wrong!

Does it tell you it's "2.0.0.2" (assuming you were using 2.0.x
previously). Mine still said 2.0.0.1 (till I fixed it, that is).

I'd read about this bug before which is why I checked after the update.
And as expected, the update failed (but you wouldn't know that - not
right away anyway).

Vista has no conflicts here, with Firefox installed. A release version of
course, not one of those 'nightly-builds'.

Funny, I thought most regular Firefox users were running released

What about the post I looked at earlier today that spoke of problems with
Roxio software?

What about MSN Messenger - not Firefox, causes problems with Vista.

Ooops. Thanks for playing.

Alias,

Jonathan never experiences troubles and conflicts while using Windows Vista.

Oddly, Alias and others that use those third party applications repeatedly
complains wrongly assigning blame toward Vista.

What could possibly be the reason why Alias is filled with complaints?

Who is sooooooooooooo wrong? Could it be Alias?

Review the below information for learning the inherent benefits provided by
Windows Vista.

Internet Explorer Dynamic Security Protection
Through a robust new architecture, Internet Explorer 7 offers multiple,
interrelated security features to help defend your PC against malware
(malicious code or unwanted software, including worms, viruses, adware, and
spyware). Among the browser's dynamic security protections are safeguards to
help make sure your personal information doesn’t fall into the hands of
fraudulent or deceptive websites.
Web browsers perform many functions. They must be open and flexible enough
to handle a mix of website activity while maintaining sufficiently high
security to prevent unwanted data access or application behaviors. Managing
this balance is a top priority for Microsoft.

Together with Windows Defender, the security built into Internet Explorer 7
provides more levels of defense than ever before.

Microsoft has two primary security objectives with Internet Explorer 7:
• Protection against malware
• Personal data safeguards

Protection against malware
Malware, short for malicious software, refers to software applications
designed to damage or disrupt a user’s system. The proliferation of malware
and its impact on security were some of the key driving forces behind the
design features of Internet Explorer 7. The new version has been improved to
reduce the potential for hackers to harm a system by limiting the amount of
damage that can be done if malware is able to find its way onto a user's
system. In addition, Internet Explorer 7 includes several technical features
designed to thwart hackers' efforts to trick you into entering personal data
when you should not. Core parts of the browser's architecture have also been
fortified to better defend against exploitation and improve the way the
browser handles data.

Protected Mode
Available only to people running Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista,
Protected Mode provides new levels of security and data protection for
Windows users. Designed to defend against "elevation of privilege" attacks,
Protected Mode provides the safety of a robust Internet browsing experience
while helping prevent hackers from taking over the system and installing
programs or deleting your information.
In Protected Mode, Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista cannot modify user
or system files and settings without user consent. Protected Mode requires
the user to confirm any activity that tries to put something on your machine
or start another program. By ensuring the user consents to these kinds of
actions, the likelihood of automated and/or unwanted software installation is
reduced. This feature also makes you aware of what a website is trying to do,
giving you a chance to stop it and take time to double check the
trustworthiness of the website.
