Nothing displayed in properties of Network card in network connect

When I right click on Local Area Connection for a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family
Fast Ethernet NIC and click on Properties, under the General tab, the
"Connect using:" is blank. If I click on "Configure..." the dialog box goes
away.
So I want to see the status by right clicking on the same item but nothing
happens.
I need to change the configuration so that I can get an IP address
automatically.

On the desktop Right click MyComputer.
Click Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager button.
Expand "Network Adapters" by clicking the Plus sign (+) next to the device category.
Double click your NIC if it's listed to open it's properties.

What is the status of the NIC under the General tab?

If the NIC isn't listed you'll need to install the drivers for it from the install
disk supplied with it or download them from the NIC's manufacturers support site.
