Not all icons appear in taskbar at boot up

At first, one or two icons did not appear in the taskbar after booting up,
nor after a reboot. This has been a problem for the last two months. Lately,
after installing the Microsoft Halo Game, four icons do not show up. Windows
Task Manager list the programs, so they do start up OK despite the missing
icons. (However, two of the four need the desktop icon to open). So, after
each boot up, I have to Log off and log back on. Then, all icons show OK in
taskbar. The affected programs all start by having their shortcuts in the
Start up Folder vs Registry's Run. My computer is a Gateway Performance 450,
upgraded to a 1ghz CPU. I have 320 mb memory. The C Drive (20 gb) is
approximately 50% full. I have the page file set to a fixed size of 480 mb.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Windows XP hide inactive icons are you sure this isn't all that is
happening. There should be a "<" in the taskbar if you click on this all the
icons appear. I am referring to the system tray where the clock is
right-hand side of the taskbar. If you want to control which icons appear if
you right click the taskbar then properties you can turn off the function
altogether or customise which program are shown.
