Norton Systemworks 2003 and SP2 problem

D

DB

I recently installed xp pro and then installed SP2.
This was a complete re-install of the OS (but without a disk reformat).
This means that although my files are still there, none of the programs are
installed any more.

So....I installed norton systemworks 2003. Yes 2003, not 2005.
It installed without a problem.
However it doesn't work.
First of all, there's no systemworks icon (i.e. the program that you start
up from which you can choose AV or utilities etc).
I looked for it under program files and can't find it.
Then I tried to start norton av. Nothing at all happens when I dbl click
it. Same with Norton Utilities. I can see all the files there and there
were no complaints during the install but absolutely NONE of the programs
work.

I finally uninstalled it and installed norton av 2004. It works fine. But
I really wanted systemworks because I like the utilities.

any ideas?

Yeah, I know, I can go out and buy 2005. But I already have this one and it
used to work just fine on xp pro and home without sp2.

thanks in advance

My experience with Norton Systemworks is that a few of it's "features" don't
work very well in XP on NTFS drive/s. (I've always been a Norton fan but,
.....am gradually abandoning ship :)

Nortons diskdoctor tells me lies about errors on my 1st fixed disk, whilst
PerFect Disk, Parition Magic 8 and indeed, XP's NTFS "check for errors"
....(never sure if that's chkdsk.exe?) ....can't ever find anything wrong.

....and then there's the lies it keeps telling me about faulty ActiveX
entries in the registry !
.....but, I do like the Norton A/V

Don't buy 2005, just uninstall 2003 and do without it. Systemworks doesn't
work well with XP and XP has fine utilities built in. All you need is an up
to date Anti virus & firewall. Also, you need to wipe all those files you
left in the reinstall. You don't have to reformat a good disk, but you do
need to delete all the files & reinstall everything.

Hi,

Not sure what to say. I use NSW 2004 though and it works with no problems
on my 3 personal computers, running XP Pro SP2. I haven`t heard of anyone
else having problems with previous versions of NSW, except for not having
the SP2 patch yet. Only thing I can suggest Defrag the comp a few times
with cold boots then try NSW 2003 again.

Hi,

I haven`t had any problems with my NSW 2004 on XP Pro SP2. Only one that`s
been a little troublesome is Norton System Doctor, but I read that its been
having Problems with XP, other than that all of the other NSW 2004 tools
works with no problem.
