norton removed, but still fetches updates!

I've removed Norton 2003, but every few days, Norton continues to fetch
updates! I tried viewing the culprit program responsible via Task Manager.
The only process that coincides with the activity is something named
"update.exe". But a search for that shows up several copies of that program
in different subdirectories, and none of them have a clear label to the
obvious "Norton" or "Symantec". The subdirs are just numbers. Is anyone
here familiar with this problem and if so, how do I get Norton to stop?

Look for "Live Update" in Add/Remove Programs list in the control panel and
remove it.

There is a program that completely removes all traces of Norton from
your PC, but I'm afraid I can't remember its name. Try googling for it.
Hope this helps.

You obviously didn't remove all of Norton. Norton is the barnacle of the
software world.

You'll have to use the sooper-sekret Norton/Symantec removal tool (available
at the Symantec website).

Then you'll need to scour the registry for any spoors left behind.

All that should get you close.

Thanks John.. My bad. I just learned that the updates process is
actually Windows Updates. I thought it was disabled. Someone else had
unknowlegeably enable the downloads. This was truly bizzare because I
*know* that I run the Norton Removal Tool, and deleted all references to
Norton and Symantec in the registry.

Sorry to ALL for the confusion. Appreciated the help.
