NOD32 Opinions

Hi all.

As you might know from my other post I am having some problems with
AVG at the moment and I am looking for other antivirus software that
offers supports for The Bat!

I have found a plugin on
ftp://ftp.gin.cz/pub/mswindows/the_bat/plugins/antivirus/nod32.bav
(this site is linked to in the Ritlabs knowledge base for The Bat! AV
plugins) for NOD32 and so I was just wondering how good is NOD32?

I am running Windows XP Pro SP-1 and want to be secure, esp. with
e-mail. At the moment I have uninstalled AVG's plugin for The Bat! and
I am just using the e-mail scanner proxy thingy that it has for
clients without a dedicated plugin.

Is NOD32 good? It has a good history on www.virusbtn.com however I
would like to hear some user opinions was well :)

So please post any things you like and dislike about the program.
Thank you all for your time.

You can find a bunch of AV program reviews on the net, and all seem to
prefer different solutions. Personally what I do is first look at Virus
Bulletin (no ads, so maybe no vested interest). Then I test myself against a
collection of viruses and trojans (or is it virii and trojii?) that I
have -similar collections are available on the net if you have a will to
find them.

Finally I find the best performers and choose the one that didn't cause XP
to freeze or slow down, and also utilized the least amount of memory.

In my non-pro testing NOD32 failed the the virus dectection test, as did
AVG. The best I found was Symantec Corp (NOT NORTON AV!!!!!). Best
protection (found all of the viruses and trojans I had) as well as using up
about 10,000K on my machine.

If you have multiple users set up in Bat!, try to avoid NOD32 since it
doesn't support it.
It only supports it on M$ products.
And NOD32 don't care to implement multiple user email support for
products like Eudora or The Bat!

I'm using Eudora and viruses walked through the door- it was not funny
anymore.

Cheers

I use Nod32 and it checks port 110. If this is the way you receive
your mail, it will be checked.
Have a look. http://www.wilderssecurity.com/index.php?board=39

Before you make a final decision on any product, check out several.
Besides NOD, take a look at Trend Micro Internet Security.

Virus Bulletin has probably the best testing of any review site
because they have their own wildlist they maintain and test against
that reflects the changing world of viruses.

My own testing simply involves checking my email without first using
mailwasher. And with NOD32 I have a very nice collection of
quarantined viruses going. :)

One of the great things about NOD is that they have actually blocked a
few unknown viruses with their heuristic scanning (never heard of
another AV doing that, but the theory is sound) and they update very
regally (see link).

Exactly. It doesn't make any difference which email client you use, it
checks the mail.
