Hi people,

I have a big sound issure on my computer and really really need some help, i
have tried everything, downloading all sorts of different drivers and still,
no damm sound!!! just a beeping noise when i get a error or window pop up.

Please can someone give me some serious advice and belive me its a tricky
one, i have spend 2 days trying to sort this problem out, even run a none
destrutive system recovery. It all started when was using window update, and
got the blue screen of death and every since, no sound.

So i ask again. could someone run me through some steps to try to resolve
this ANNOYING problem.

Many thanks in advance.

Dave ( On the verge of throwing this computer through the higest and nearest
window.lol)

Go to control panel...add&remove.........and remove all of the Sound
Driversthat you installed
Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Sound Device
restart system and let XP redetect the card and load the drivers that came
with your card from the CD...or if it is build in from the mobo CD.
Get back to us if that does not work...this time with specifics as to Sound
Card and motherboard.
I would also change the Update Notification to "notify but do not download"
When it notifies you that updates are available go to the site thru IE7 and
only download and install MS XP updates...no updates for devices not made by
MS.

Ok thanks for the reply but i done all that already, here is what i get after
reboot...

I get the bubble in the bottom right saying ' Found new hardware' Multimedia
Audio Controller.

Then i get a STOP in the installation saying driver not signed by microsoft
or something, so i click on ' Continue Anyway' And then get this...

The file 'vinyl97.sys' on Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo WDM Driver Disk is Needed.

Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK,

then i have a box saying C:\WINDOWS 'Browse'

'OK' does nothing but just beep. So i cancel and the bubble says your
hardware might not work properly.

Any more idears?

Hi Dave

Don't you have the disk Windows is asking for? Or the driver somewhere
on your hard disk?

.... and did you "Browse" to the directory or disk that has your
motherboard drivers?

If you don't have the disk that came with your computer, go here:

Often the easiest and less time comsuming way is to just buy and install
a new sound card and disable any onboard sound "card" that may be on
your motherboard.

I think i may have to mate, i took cover off and i'm not 100% sure but it
looks like its built onto the motherboard with no removable parts.

Looks like i am STUCK AGAIN!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRR. lol

Well, the sound function on your motherboard can go bad. It's just one
of many things on the mobo that can go south. That's why you have to
have a motherboard with enough free slots to potentially "fix" such
niggles.
