No autoshutdown XP

I have just installed WinXP Pro. When I want to quit I click on
Turnoff Computer, click on Turn OFF
I get: Logging off
Saving settings
Windows is shutting down
Then the display goes blank for an instant
followed by the Win XP logo and the line:
It is now safe to turn off your computer

No automatic shutdown of power. My other PC which I purchased with XP
already installed does an automatic power shutoff after the blanked
display in the above sequence.

Why the difference? What can I do to make this newly installed XP
also automatically shut off power?

Check your power supply. If it's AT then it won't shutdown automatically. If
it's ATX, it will. I have an elderly PC with an AT PSU and two newer ones
with ATX PSUs. The ATX will auto-switch off. The AT is manual.

How do I identify whether my ps is AT?
The case is an ATX type and so is the motherboard.
I see no identification on the power supply except its
ratings.

This same computer when operating with different HD as
Win98SE does automatically shutoff.
