new install shutdown problem

on working computer , removed 98 completly. install windows xp from scratch. all seens to work but shutdown. autoshutdown worked on 98 , on XP , screen comes up with "windows shutdown: computer can be turned off" but the power botton will not work , have to pull power cord. p.c. has SHUTTLE AK32A motherboard. questions : why did automatic shutdown stop working? why is the power switch not working? they both worked in 98

you know how many hits you will get if you serch for "shutdown"

thanks , i did find the problem, one of the sites
pointed me to a hidden device in the hardware device
maniger . it was disabled , and inabling it worked , it
was hardware API advance power interface
