No Auto or Manual Updates or Cookie Scans

As several others have mentioned. I can't get the update feature work - either
manually or automatically. Immediately after install Win AntiSpy a couple of
days ago, the manual update worked (made the server connection and reported no
new updates). The e auto updater was scheduled to run for the first time this
morning. It didn't work. I got no error message and am not even sure that it
tried to update. I ran the manual update, it tried to establish a connection
with the server, then timed-out and I and got:
"Warning, could not connect to the Internet. Updates have failed. Autoupdate
could not detect an Internet Connection."
Since the manual update worked immediately after installation, I don't think the
problem is NAV or ZA.
Win AntiSpy doesn't seem to have ever scanned the cookies. After a scan the
report shows zero cookies scanned.

I have disabled automatic updates.

Using File/check for updates has worked for me. Once it
downloaded and installed an update to definitions. Second
time it reported no updates available. But it is rather
slow. I was connected to the internet (DSL via USB modem)
before clicking check for updates.
