neworking can't see computer on network

I have a two computer network using a crossover cable.
Host computer running windows xp and client running
windows 98SE. I have got the internet sharing connection
working DSL ( both computers can connect to internet) but
on Xp host computer can not see itself or the client
computer to share files. The client computer see's
itself but not the host computer. I have run xp network
setup on both computers but still can not see itself or
other computer. Help

hi have just had the same thing myself the obvious
questions are have both the computers got a unique name
but exactly the same working group?are they both using
1px/spx protocol and are the ip setting ok i.e host
192.168.1.1 subnet 255.255.255.0 client 192.168.1.2
subnet 255.255.255.0 my problem turned out to be the
cable. am now trying to sort out printer sharing am about
to post a message
