Newer Version of IE Required

I am running Windows XP SP2 and Office 2003. For reasons unknown to me I
cannot open Outlook. I get an error message stating that I need IE v. 4.01 or
later to open the program. In fact, my version of IE is 6.0.X. I can get on
the web without any problem but I cannot open Outlook because something in
the opener thinks I have an old version of IE.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Butler

Hi Butler :)

This is just a wild guess, as I'm not familiar with the Office 2003, but, it
would seem that something did not get installed or installed properly. If
Ofc. 2003, like 2002 XP, has the detect and repair feature, try running it
to see if the program got installed properly. Also, check the Office
components in the Add/Repair to be sure all were selected to be installed or
run from your computer.

Again, I'm not familiar with the Ofc. 2003, I have 2002 XP, so I'm just
trying to point at some features that may be available in 2003 where you
might check to be sure all components are fully installed and set up. It
may be that for some reason it is unable to detect the necessary Windows
files. Hopefully, someone else here will have a better suggestion. :)

Hope this helps :)

Jan :)

Hi Han Il and Vincinzo Di Russo,
Thank you for your suggestions. I will follow through on them tonight when
things are less hectic here at work. I appreciate your quick response and
will return to tell you whether I get the problem solved.
I might mention that I had the same problem on my desktop and used the
Windows XP repair (obtainable on bootup + F8) from my original disc (which
had SP1 on it), then ran SP2 and that seemed to fix the problem. However, I
could not get the same "repair" screen with my HP laptop. It only allowed me
to choose safe mode, etc.
I'll let you guys know how things go and thanks again for your help.

Hi Jan and Vincenzo,
Neither of the fixes you suggested worked but I did figure out how to make
my laptop check the CD drive for a boot disk, i.e., went into setup and
changed settings so that it looks in the CD drive for a bootable disk prior
to going to the C: drive. At any rate, I was able to boot from the original
Windows XP Pro disk, work through the repair, just like I did on my desktop,
and then re-install SP2. All works well now. Thank you again for taking time
to respond.
