Off to take my new medications.

It's just a simplistic and clumsy forgery you can spot from miles
away. Since I don't respond to insults the "somebody" is now resorting
to braking the law.

Whoa boy, stop that law. Laws that move are bad but not as annoying as
in-laws that stay.
Anyway, I've forwarded the lot to my Internet provider and let them
run the trace and worry about it.

Ah, so Dialup Donny the Detective is off to visit Super ISP (his mommy)
to complain about a naughty bad man that is using a 'phoney.email'
address with a valid domain name so some poor server cops all the spam.
Make sure you take a gun or lots of money or they will laugh in your
face.

I like the new Donny; it is a great improvement over the old Donald
Grump. Three cheers for the New Donny.

The New Stevie is even better! Look ma, no brains...!

But wait a minute, who am I now? Stevie? Pretend Don? Ed? I better
take a look at my posting history in alt.test, using Steven (phallus)
and wannabe Don.

I don't know who I am anymore. I wish they would give me some
medication instead of just locking me up in this rubber room and
throwing away the key.

I'm so furious that real Don ignores me I'm prepared to do anything.
Why does real Don ignore me? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?

I feel so inferior I have to spend hours faking his address. And he
still ignores me! Wwwwhhhhhhyyyy!

Don, please respond! Please, please, please, please, pretty please!
Call me names or anything, but just respond. I HATE being ignored!

Hi Steven,

My medications are giving me problems again.

I know I'm quite ignorant, but I do like showing everyone
just how ignorant. I posted a message using your name, but
I wasn't smart enough to change the posting host name
and it came from supernews like all my other messages.

Because of this amateurish error, this message I posted
doesn't show up in your google groups profile. I'm so
sorry I've again shown the world how incompetant I am.

I enjoyed insulting you, but I just can't cope with how
I can insult myself. Waaah - mommy, this is too hard.

And to top it all off, I've forgotten that libel law applies
when a real person is libelled.

I really do need new medications.

Wow, a new me; I like the idea of a support team.

Your first mission (should you choose to accept it) is to research file
uploading from an HTTP client to a Perl (CGI) script on the server.
Some files transfer correctly, some upload but the copy from the temp
file to the output file fails, and some upload but the script aborts
before the output file is even opened. The server reports
"configuration error" but no details and I don't have access to any logs
that might provide further info.

Presumably the error is caused by the file size or content. See if you
can find out what restrictions apply here and if they can be modified by
a user. All useful details will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info. And now let me return the favor. I responded to
your childish fake with an equally transparent spoof. You don't want
to escalate and go any deeper than that. You really, really don't.

What I'm genuinely puzzled - especially keeping in mind your initial
messages here (see below) now a couple of years old - how did you go
from that to your current behavior? This is an honest question with no
strings attached.

I'm asking this with real sadness because I enjoyed talking to Steven
back then, a fellow programmer "who still has his IBM XT manual" as
you put it.

Please don't just rush with a knee jerk reaction but re-read what
follows calmly and give it some serious thought.

Don.

Hi Don,

Are these SDK's readily available ? I have written code to drive a
Canon scanner but for serious scanning a would like to try a Nikon and
would be much more inclined to buy one if I had an SDK.

-- Steven

Hi Don,

Thanks for the info. I will investigate. I am interested in the
"command" documentation. Also, I will check "sane.org".

Good luck with your efforts. I found some Nikon info (but not the 5000)
in the SANE files. They look like much more sophisticated scanners than
the FS4000.

-- Steven (who still has his IBM XT manual)

I think Don is quite right here. Ed's outburst was outrageous. If I
was one of the quiet 5400 users waiting for a fix for a scanner than
Vuescan is meant to support I would be angry now.

Rather than fixing bugs we now have Vuescan for blondes (8.1 complete
with permanent "stupid" button). No wonder existing users are less than
impressed.

Of course, I do realize that everyone here despises me for
my ranting - and it's perfectly understandable that you
despise me too. Even worse than my ranting is the fact
that I long ago bored everyone to tears, and got put into
most peoples kill files.

But when I need an answer to a real question, I just
post my questions in one of my alter egos, as
"Golden Lasky".

Of course, I'm not a programmer and don't know a thing about
programming, but I desperately crave attention so I pretend.

Where are those meds?

And as everyone can see, I also post messages as Golden Lasky.
I think I've provoked myself.

Of course, I made an elementary error in setting up this account that
makes it clear that I'm also Golden Lasky.

I'm just not very smart.

I think Golden's writing style is different from Don's- he uses
different syntax, insults, and demonstrates an awareness of how others
think that Don seems to lack. Can you really prove they are the same?

Of course Golden and I are the same person. We both post from
dial-up AOL addresses, and the vast majority of our postings are
either about VueScan or meta-discussions about me.

Well Don, as requested I have delayed my reply so you won't regard it as
a knee-jerk reaction.

In response to your crude post containing incorrect unfounded
allegations I presented you with an opportunity to provide a helpful and
positive solution to an admittedly off-topic problem I was investigating
at the time. But, alas, all I get in another standard DonnyReply with
lots of useless emotional twaddle, a sad attempt at a threatening
overtone, and no meaningful content.

Your Honour, members of the jury, on trial today is a severely deluded
psychopath who shows no remorse for the damage he has done to an
Internet newsgroup. Exploiting the freedom offered by Usenet, the
accused has posted an overwhelming number of abusive, aggressive, and
defamatory entries over the recent years. This has stifled discussion
and discouraged some participants and therefore reduced the value of
this facility to most interested parties.

We recommend that you find the accused guilty and sentence him to a term
of four years hard labour running Vuescan 5.0.0 on a 386SX to drive a
Palsonic 7-bit scanner with multiple passes at different exposure
settings and some home-made image merging software to produce TIFF files
that can be converted to JPEGs with minimal distortion.

In response to your crude post containing incorrect unfounded
allegations

And that post was so "crude" and "incorrect" that you yourself
responded with:

I think Don is quite right here. Ed's outburst was outrageous.

Again, if that was the case why did you respond with:

Thanks for the info. I will investigate. I am interested in the
"command" documentation. Also, I will check "sane.org".

I'm sorry, Steven, but your's is a revisionist's history and it just
doesn't add up because the messages are in the public domain and they
tell a totally different story.

And even if your misrepresentation were true, what do your outbursts
(which I do *not* respond to as others have pointed out!) achieve?

Don.

Roger S.

I think running Vuescan 2.0.1 on a 7 bit scanner with a 386 is a very
appropriate punishment for this drivel. Hard labor indeed! Thou shalt
curse Ed's name by the time your mangled scans are through.
