New Users Help in Win XP

Sonny

Hello,

On my 2000 clients, when i create a new user, the profile is created as it
should... proper start menu and proper backround... network printers all
install and the users roaming profile is good.

when i try this on an XP machine, the backround is default XP, the start
menu sorta works, no network printers install, and profiles are strictly
local... i cannot change the profile to roaming at all, it's greyed out.

also, no network printers install.

i realize some of this can be fixed with a gpo... however, i have no domain
security policy on the win2k machines... i have no local group policy on the
win 2k machines... i just don't understand what is making them install all
the printers and be setup properly

logon script is only net use drives...

please help me figure out why XP will not create a roaming profile, why it
will not install my network printers, and why the start menu and desktop
settings are way off compared to my windows 2k machines.

Thanks!

You could check to see what policies (if any) are obstructing your roaming
profiles/printer scripts by opening up a command prompt and typing: -

gpresult >c:\policy.txt <ENTER>

Browse to the newly created policy.txt file on the root of your c drive and
open it. This utility will highlight amongst other things;

The OS configuration
Applied GP settings
Any filtered GPOs

Also running the SET command may help attain some more information that
coudl help you.
