New Find? - System Restore Points

Hi:

This may have been posted before, but I have found something new about WD
creating System Restore Points.

Previously I had my Options applicable "Scan Frequency" set to scan
"Daily" and WD was creating a Restore Point even when I opened WD for any
type action. Just by opening the application it was creating a Retsore Point.

I changed the Scan Fequency to Wednesday and now I can open WD without a
Restore Point being created. Also I checked for updates and it did not create
a Restore Point. In addition, I ran a manual Quick Scan and it did not create
a Restore Point.

This is much better than previously about not creating redundant Restore
Points and until MS does something about this space eating problem it at
least reduces the impact.

I apologize if this has been previously posted..

Only if you feel comfortable with editing the registry, there is a post in
this newsgroup from Steve Dodson [MSFT] detailing what additons to the HKLM
entry in your registry you can make to eliminate the problem. Subject is:
"System Restore Points" dated 5/5/06. but I suggest you read the whole thread
before making any decision. Last I read on the subject was that MS believe
it is good policy for WD to create System Restore Points before making
changes to your system. Guess only time will tell if they decide otherwise in
light of feedback on here.

MS have recently said "WD team are working hard on this issue" in the
"Windows Defender Deficiencies" thread here.

I had from start unchecked the automatic scan option. Now I've checked it
again and set it to scan on Wednesday at 02:00 (when my computer normally is
shut down...).

It seems that WD is no longer creating checkpoints every time I start it.
Whether the daily normal System Restore Points will be created remains to
be seen.

Hi:

Please disregard what I posted, as WD is creating 5-6 Restore Points daily
and why it has gone back to doing this I have no idea. Hopefully MS will put
a stop to this "Space Eating Creature"!

Just shows what a useless feature it is,
Not only is it unwanted but it is totally unpredictable too!
