dear mark,

Pls check your driver for your Sound card and VGA Card, probably its not
compatible with your current Operating system.... after double check or
re-install with your correct Driver for VGA n Sound card i am sure you wont
meet that problem again like stanby black out or the screen like wave... good
luck ;)

Mark,

A few, hopefully quick questions. I believe that it is safe to assume you
have been reinstalling Windows XP Home or Pro, considering where you have
posted. Is this true?

What hardware do you have?

What is the speed of your CPU? If you don't have something over 500 mhz, it
may be time for an upgrade, to a 1+ Ghz CPU and a new motherboard.

How much RAM do you have? You might be able to install Windows XP with 64
mb, but I wouldn't use it with less than 256 mb.

How large is your hard drive? How much free space is there remaining?

How exactly are you "reformatting" the computer? What steps are you taking?

What, if any, software have you installed after reformatting the computer,
besides Microsoft Windows?

What type of internet connection are you using? (This is not really that
important, but could affect your ability to download new drivers.)

Have you changed any of the settings on Windows XP, or did you perform a
default install?

Is the computer in general slow, or are the only problems that you have
noticed with the computers ability to hibernate and smoothly scroll web pages?

How much time has past between the three times you reformatted the computer?
Do these problems arise immediately or take time to start taking place?

I hope that you will take the time to answer at least some of these
questions, because right now I cannot do suggest any ideas with out knowing
your particular computer setup.

The Internet crashes every time I turn off my computer with Windows XP. I
sometimes have to "system restore" a dozen times before the internet will
activate.

HI Mark;
go to your control panel - add remove programs. select internet
explorer click on add remove. This will give you the option of repairing or
reinstalling IE explorer. after repairing you should be ableto connect to
internet ok . Also make sure you defrag your hard drive. if your still having
problems run checkdisk. -go to run type "cmd" a dos box will appear type in
"chkdsk /r" it will ask you if you want to run it on next reboot say yes and
close the box then reboot

Good Luck

The cheat sheet applies to hardware/software already incorporated into the PC.
My issue applies to the inability to load Office 2003 Student/Teacher
Edition in my drive which already has Office Pro 2000. I get the error
message after initiating the loading of the 2003 Office that the Windows
Installer does not respond. I think this is beyond my control. Have you got
a fix?

If you try to uninstall Internet Explorer from Control Panel you will be very
upset. You can't do it from there. In fact Internet Explorer is part of the
O/S hence the lawsuits against MS. The issue seems to be not Software, but
Hardware. By and large the issues seem to be centralized around the video
card, hence the standby mode and the slow screen refresh rate (waves). Either
get a new driver for the video card or get a new one. THe old one could in
fact be bad. You can pick up a pretty decent one at CompUsa for around $50
and a great one for about $300 (or anything in between).

Good luck.

Hi Paul,
Do you have Windows XP?
If you have an earlier version of Windows, you may need an update of Windows
Installer. This knowledge base article may be of help.
