networking xp to 2000

I have a desktop pc running Microsoft Windows 2000 as an operating
system. I recently purchased a notebook computer running Windows XP
sp2. I have attemted to network these two computers together and am not
having any success.

I have shared the files on the 2000 machine and given full permisions
to eveyone.

When I try to access the 2000 machine it shows me the machine in
network neighberhood but when I try to open it it tells me I do not
have permission and should contact the network administrator. I can
however see shared files on the xp machine from the 2000 machine.

Can anyone help.

On the Win2k machine create a new user account which exactly matches the
user name and password used to log onto the XP machine. You do not have to
log onto the Win2k machine with this account - just create it.
