I am having troubles networking XP and 95 too.I have made
a workgroup called 'Mshome' and I have connected them via
2 patch leads and a hub. The computers won't connect to
each other :( I have followed all the advice on the
microsoft support pages. From the XP machine I can use
command prompt to ping the 95 machine and it works fine.
Although in 95's Network neighbothood and XP's Ntwork
Places I can't find or see the opposite computer only the
computer that I am using. I am new to networking can
somebody help me?

We are currently experiencing the same problem only we are trying to connect Windows XP with Windows 98. The computer with 98 can not connect to the XP, but it will work vice versa

Any solutions out there

Rob,

Are you running ICF or a third party firewall on the XP machine? Any
firewall on the Win 95 machine?

You have to disable ICF. Any third party firewall you have to totally
un install - carefully - as many personal firewalls do not un install
cleanly. File sharing won't happen otherwise.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on the
local area network connection -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall

Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on both computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)
