I am not sure where to post this but it is a networking issue
I have a legacy EISA 486 PC with propriety boards / application installed running WFW 3.1. This motherbrd does have PCI slots I installed a new 10/100 PCI Ethernet card. It installed Windows NETBEUI and IPX/SPX with NDIS protocols only
I need to transfer data to my server with TCP/IP will a machine this old run TCP/IP
Do I need to install NetBEUI protocols on the server machine

Thanks in advanc

WFW machines can handle both TCP/IP and NetBEUI.

You can install NetBEUI on the server OR you could install TCP/IP on the WFW
machine.

This was a new Dlink 10/100 Ethernet card I installed. In WFW when I
select add a protocol there is no TCP/IP protocol to add only two choices
NetBEUI or IPX/SPX. Where do you find TCP/IP? I am sure the install CD has
it because there are drivers for every OS right up to XP.

I am still trying to get TCP/IP to work on WFW3.1
I have attempted to put all the updates I can find into WFW 3.11
I first installed the WFW TCP/IP.exe update Found the TCP/IP protocol now in the list of available protocols and installed
Entered WFW network setup choose TCP/IP it allows you to enter an IP address but still can see it on the network but not access the shared drive from any workstation in the workgroup
I loaded the newer TCP/IP - 32 3.11b for WFW now I have dynanic DHCP features in the network setup. If I allow the autoexec.bat to run start net after the Windows splash the system goes to black screen with curser blinking in upper left top and sits forever

I read somewhere that to run WFW TCP/IP -32 3.11b you need WFW(b) update. Where do you get the update to WFW to the (-B) version?

=======================

It's too long ago since I worked with WFW, hence I have forgotten the
details about WFW networking. However, I still have my DOS network boot
disk, derived from the WinNT Server network boot disk creator. It runs
TCP/IP. You could run it before starting WFW.

Alternatively, you could download a network boot disk from
http://www.nu2.nu/bootdisk/network/. I don't know if it runs TCP/IP.

If W3.11 isn't attached to the network physically, then it cannot start the
network services.

I can go to my Windows 2000 workstation and both machines are in WORKGROUP. I can ask for Windows Neighborhood or search for computers and it finds the WFW3.11 machine name but when I double click on it I get the message box that \net not accessable type message. I am sharing the C: drive. Am I fighting a security or permission issue with W2K talking to an older machine?

You may well be. On the other hand I have no trouble when making a
connection from a DOS machine to Win2000, as long as I use the same network
credentials.
