Networking an XP with 98

I have a new compyter with XP and an old computer with Win98 connected togetther with the XP connected to the internet. The Windows 98 is Windows 95 upgraded.

Tried to set up network using XP wizard. - Doesn't work properly. XP can use 98's files as normal but 98 doesn't see XP. Opening on network neighbourhood on 98 give various results but does not show XP on the network and most often looks for it till the search times out.

Pinging 98 from XP gives OK result but pinging XP from 98 from XP fails.

Manualy setting address on 98 does not help.

Any suggestions.

Sounds like the firewall on XP is blocking the connection.

Disable the firewall on XP's internal LAN connection only.

Leave it on in the Internat connection.

We are suffering a similar problem both internal firewall & Norton firewall
are disabled, simple file sharing activated, log on as user activated &
account set up & enabled on xp pro. Net bios over tcp/ip enabled still won't
allow 98 to access xp pro see earlier post
Any additional help or suggestions very much appreciated
TIA
