Network Sriver Problem

Hi,

I'm experiencing a problem getting a network adpater to work. Windows XP has
identified the adapter as an "Intel(R) Pro/100 VE Network Connection". It
shows up with an "Exclamation Point (!)" under Other Devices in Device
Manager. I tried to let Windows install the "recommended" driver from the
Windows XP (SP1) CD, but it can't find it. When I try to use the "Don't
search, I will choose the driver to install" option, select Intel from the
manufacturers' list and the "Intel(R) Pro/100 VE Network Connection" adapter
from the adapter list, I get a message that "Installing this device driver
is not recommended because Windows cannot verify that it is compatible with
your hardware. If the driver is not compatible, your hardware will not work
correctly, and your computer might become unstable or stop working
completely. Do you want to continue installing this driver?"

If I respond yes, it complains that the device could not start (Error code
10). I tried every other Intel adapter driver on the Windows XP SP1 CD and
got the same error message. Any ideas on where to go from here?

Thanks

There is an updated driver for this intel network adapter.
I suggest going to your computer manufacurer's website and
getting the latest driver.

The unfortunate thing is that this computer is an after-market OEM and the
company's gone out of business. I'm searching the Intel site for an updated
driver. Hopefully I'll find one that works.
