network connections gone haywire

K

KO

I have window xp home on my computer and hook up to the
internet with a DSL connection with external modem
provided by the QWEST.

Everything was working fine until last week.

I went through the problem wiht QWEST and they determined
that the internet connection was fine but when we looked
under Network connections it shows two connections
enabled. The ethernet connection and Local area network
by Linux. the 1394 copnnection is disabled. I only have
one computer hooked. there is no LAN. When I try and
disable the LAN/Linux connection it does not let me. It
says something like "other computer will permit it to be
disabled." QWEST said it was a hardward/software problem
and they could not help. They suggested removing the
ethernet card and reinstalling. How do you do that? They
said for some reason the card is reading the connection as
if it is hooked up to a lan. Help.

Let's look at ipconfig information for the computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.

And please don't contribute to the spread and success of email address mining
viruses. Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep yourself a bit
safer when posting to open forums. Protect yourself and the rest of the
internet - read this article.

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
