Network Connections

I see four configured network connections - 1394, Wireless, Ethernet, Local
Area Conn. (for Modem) and an Internet gateway (when connected to Internet).
Each of these use different adapters (I suppose). When I run ipconfig -
I get a message, that lists all but 1394 connection. However, it names all
connections as
Ethernet adapter {connection name}:
e.g. Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:
Why is it so ??

Ipconfig lists wired, wireless, USB, and Bluetooth network connections
as "Ethernet". Other types that it can list are "PPP" (dial-up) and
"Other" (1394).
