Network connections disappear

Larry

I have a customer on the road and he can't reach the
Internet because his network connections have disappeared.
I walked him through creating a new dialup connection and
when he's finished, the new connection does not appear
either. In the office he's connected to the LAN and his
LAN connection is not present either. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Larry

Larry,

I had a feeling - sorry, but I don't know the answer to
that one :-(

Larry,

The only thing I can think of here is "rights". Does your
client have administrative rights on the machine?

Look for relevant error messages in Event Viewer.

Close the Network Connections window and make sure that the Network
Connections service is running:

1. Right click My Computer, and click Manage.
2. Double click Services and Applications.
3. Double click Services.
4. Double click Network Connections. If the Service status is
Stopped, click Start.
5. Set the Startup type to Manual.

Then open the Network Connections window.

Thanks for your reply,

I had to wait until E.T. phoned home to try this ;-)
sadly, there are no pertinent errors in the event log, and
the Network Service status is "Started". I had him stop
and restart the service, still the problem. I had him
click on the "Dependencies" tab of the Network Sevices and
got the error "null>: no such interface supported" if that
helps pin anything down.

One more possibility: see if this Microsoft Knowledge Base article

Hi Steve,

Nope. I tried it though. Those registry settings don't
exist on this computer, and SP1 has not been installed.
And of course he can't download it to see if that cures
the problem since he cannot connect. If he tries to create
a network connection that we already created once, he gets
an error that the connection already exists so obviously
they are there somewhere. Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Larry
