network connection icon in sys tray.....

I have several comp's on a peer to peer all running XPPro SP2...on some of
them I keep getting a message that says "network cable unplugged" then about
3-5 seconds later it says "local area connection is now connected" or
something to that effect...all the while there is no problem getting online
etc...just the annoying messages...I've run multiple virus scans and
spyware/adware scans with different software and have not found
anything...also on a couple of machines, instead of giving the aforementioned
message, it says aquiring network address, when in fact it has an address and
is working fine...what's the deal...does anybody know....by the way, one is
using a static private ip in the 192.168.x.x range, the others are using the
router as the dhcp server...if someone has any thoughts, please, I'd like to
hear them....I've also tried to update drivers and uninstall and reinstall
the connections/nics...but then eventually a little later, it starts
again....arrrggh!!!

It may be the NIC/Switch negotiation of duplex that is bothering youre
computer...

Try setting it to 100/Full Duplex on both, maby it would help.
