network access slow but fast on 2000 machines

I have a small workgroup in my office (12 machines).
They are all Win2000 but my machine is XP pro. We all
have a mapped network drive to our file server. My XP
machine opens and browses these mapped drives VERY slow,
but the 2000 machines blaze through the mapped drives.
Why is this?

I have disabled "netork drive scanning" in Norton and
have tried all other tweaks i can think of but browsing
the network is still slow.

it could be hardware settings issue. check the switch and NIC settings.

Thanks for the info. but sadly i don't know what you
mean. I've restarted our two switches (they are not
configurable) and not sure what i can do with the NIC
settings.

thanks for any help.
