Network Access Permission

Sorry it took me awhile to do this. This machine is a xmas gift and I had to
keep taking apart and hiding. I just ran the fixnet.reg file that you
suggested. Previously the node type was HYBRID, while on my WinME machine it
was Broadcast. After running the fixnet file the Node now says UNKNOWN.
Please advise, Regards, William

William,

If all of your computers now are Node Type - Unknown, then they are compatible.
What you do not want is one with Node Type - Point To Point (WINS clients).

Yes, that was the fix I needed. The old WinME machine was using node:
Broadcast, and the WinXP machine was "Mixed", your patch removed the "mixed"
node and left node:"unknown", so I had to edit the registry and set node to
"Broadcast". As soon as I did that, everything became visible on the
network. I really appreciate all your help. I learned alot and could never
have done it without your help and the others on this thread. Thanks again,
Regards, William

After having almost given up trying to Network 2 XP computers together I came
across your threads about Windows SVP1 firewall and Norton Firewall disabling
and I was able to get past the "You may not have permission..." block and
after just a a few more attempts, get them to regonize each other on the
network. Hallejuliah!
I don't understand why XP Service Pack 1 defaults back to having firewall
checked after each system restart and I must again uncheck but no solution is
perfect.
Often I also don't have success with both computers showing up on the
network but I'm sure with your helpful posts- Steve- I'll easily uncover a
solution, instead of aimlessly searching in the dark. THANKS FOR YOUR HELPFUL
POSTS.

Was browsing thru looking for some answers. Know this is an old post but info
and links look very useful. Hope this goes thru to Carey.

Couldn't link to :

(1) "www.careyholzman.com/xp/home/xphome-1.htm" AND
(2) "www.careyholzman.com/xp/home/fixnet.zip"

Could use those. How to get?

Visited your site. Signed Guest Book. Great, well-rounded site info; one of
the best
I've seen to date... Checked out some of the links and downloaded lots of
info from
links in left column. That will need "some time" to review.

Thanx in advance,

Ted...
