.NET Framework makes me logon

Scott M.

The only thing that I can think of is that my computer is connected to a
domain (I'm assuming yours isn't). This may cause the advanced tab to come
up for me while it is not shown for you (since you may not need it normally
because you are not in a domain).

OK, Scott. Thanks.

You are correct that I am not connected to a domain. I'm on a small home
network connected to the Internet via a DSL modem and hardware firewall
(SonicWall).

Again, thanks for all the help.

Bruiser,

Thanks for that link. That explains it! What the article doesn't explain
is how to turn off the requirement to use passwords if one does not use
control userpasswords2. It wasn't until I used control userpasswords2 that
I could turn off passwords. The checkbox on the Screen Saver window
determines whether the Welcome screen comes up after the screen saver runs.
Perhaps that controls passwords -- if there is no Welcome screen, there is
nowhere to enter a password.

In spite of what that KB article says, control userpasswords2 worked on XP
Home to remove the password requirement. I don't use Groups, so the Power
Group issue (mentioned in the KB article) wasn't a problem.

John,

Check this out. Go to the bottom and you'll see mention of control
userpassword2 (it also states the fix applies to Home as well as Pro, so I
guess it does have limited use):

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315231&Product=winxp

Another way to turn off the password requirement in order to logon
automatically is to use TweakUI (Logon page):

And, if you're comfortable editing the Registry, you might find this
interesting:

(BTW, kellys-korner-xp.com is a terrific source of info.)

Thanks, Bruiser....

I looked at the links. Maybe it's time for TweakUI for XP, although I'm
fine with editing the registry. For now, it's all working fine -- a good
thing!

Annoyances.org is a terrific resource, as is Kelly's Korner.

1. Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2 and press ok.

2. On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To
Use This Computer check box and then click OK.

3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user name
and password for the account you want to be logged on each time you start
your computer.

Tip:

Add Control UserPasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)

Why can't I Auto-Logon anymore?
