Hi,

The net.exe programs stops some programs installing.
I have to kill the net.exe process in task manager before it allows the
program to install.

I scaned for viruses and spyware. Its clean.
The PC is a new fresh clean installation.
Windows Xp Professional SP2

Thanks for any help.

I suggest you report exactly what you are doing, how you
are doing it and how you can tell that net.exe prevents some
programs from installing. Your post is a little to vague to
draw valid conclusions.

Thanks for the respond

What I did is the following:

Did a fresh WinXP PRo SP2 installation.
Try to install a program.
The installation just hangs.
No screen appears, but in task manager the setup is in the processes.
The funny thing is that the setup process is a sub-process under net.exe
process.

Example

net.exe
setup.exe

Also sometimes there are two net.exe. I killed them and then the setup
continues
as normal. Sometimes in the middle of the installation the net.exe will
popup in the processes and the installation hangs again until I kill it again.

It is just some programs that it happens in. Different types of installation
programs. MS SQL Server 2000 was one of the programs that had the problem.

I also had some Windows Update problems, because of the net.exe.
Before I could do a full Updates, I had to remove the net.exe and net1.exe
out of the system32 folder.

Hope this explain things better.

Thanks in advance

I would start with a full virus scan, follwed by sfx.exe (System File
Checker).
