Nero 5.5 Won't Recognized New USB DVD Burner

Hi and Happy Holidays,

Nero 5.5 won't recognize my new HP DVD 840 external (USB) burner.
I have two generic internal burners, one each CD and DVD, that have been
operating for about two years. I've found nothing helpful on the internet
including on Ahead's site.

I've sent them a query but would like to get this thing working before they
get around to respond. By past experience that can be a while.

Any help appreciated.

I wouldn't hold out much hope for Ahead helping you, they are a bunch of
arsehole. I had a support call with them which lasted over a year. They
admited the bug in their software but when I sent them e-mails asking them
for an update every week, they told me to give them more time and not e-mail
so frequently; I left it for a month on a couple of occassions and they lost
the case details so I had to explain the history and everything again, they
kept losing the details and coming up with wierd and wonderful excuses. They
were the least helpful, least intelligent customer support people I have
ever dealt with. The bottom line is that they don't need to support their
products as they are in such a dominant position anyway - **** the user.

Is your software OEM? That might explain it.

As I understand it, support for new drives has to be programed into Nero so
if the drive has been released since the last update of Nero 5, I wouldn't
expect it to support it.

That's correct.

BTW: you should be able to download a newer version of Nero and give it a
try before you buy it

No, it is a retail version. I dislike it but the last time I went shopping
for a
replacement none of the others seemed any better. The burner comes
with Nero Express 6 which I dislike even more. It requires removal of V5.5
so am reluctant to install it.

It looks like its time to go looking for new burner software.

I believe you may need to upgrade to Nero 7, from your old version.
