I can no longer suffer the quirks of XP 2000
Professional and want to install Windows 2000. When I
insert and run the Windows 2000 installation disk I get
a message from XP that says " ...found an updated version
of windows on your computer. Set up functionality has
been disabled". My computer is therefore not able to run
any of the installation data. Have tried add/remove
programs: same message. Can anyone tell me how to
disable what ever XP is doing so my computer can read
from the installion disk?

Greetings --

There's no such thing as "Windows XP 2000." Do you mean Windows
XP?

If so, I don't understand what you're hoping to accomplish by
trying to run Win2K's setup from within the newer OS. No operating
system that I've ever heard of allows the installation of an older OS
from with itself. Can't imagine why you'd even think it possible.

To replace WinXP with an earlier OS, you'll have to boot from the
appropriate boot disk, format the hard drive, and install. There is
no supported downgrade path or technique.

Simply boot from the Win2K installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and/or format the system partition as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Replied in m.p.win2000.general - if you need to post to multiple groups,
it's best to do so all at once in a single message (separate the NG names
with commas) so that everyone can follow the thread. A lot of people
subscribe to multiple groups, and this way you won't be asking anyone to
reproduce someone else's work, and everyone can benefit.

Crossposting = posting once to several newsgroups within a single message.
This is not a Bad Thing (presuming the list of groups posted to is small,
and all the groups are truly relevant to your question)

Multiposting = posting separate, identical posts to several newsgroups. This
is a Bad Thing. :)
