how to disable XP 2000 Professional

I can no longer suffer the quirks of XP 2000
Professional and want to install Windows 2000. When I
insert and run the Windows 2000 installation disk I get
a message from XP that says " ...found an updated version
of windows on your computer. Set up functionality has
been disabled". My computer is therefore not able to run
any of the installation data. Have tried add/remove
programs: same message. Can anyone tell me how to
disable what ever XP is doing so my computer can read
from the installion disk?

The only way it can be done is to delete the XP partition, create a new
partition, format and run Windows 2000 setup.

I've never used Windows 2000 but I was under the impression you could do all
of this from the 2000 Setup routine, you would have to choose new install as
opposed to upgrade because this would be a downgrade, you can go forward but
not backward.

If you can't do it from Windows 2000 setup, then boot from a 9x boot floppy,
type FDISK, press enter, once in FDISK, delete the non-dos partition. If it
says there is none, then delete the primary DOS partition. Then create a
new primary DOS partition, set it active, exit, reboot from the boot floppy,
format the partition, then run Windows 2000 setup.

If you don't have a 9x boot floppy that can also load CD-ROM drivers to
facilitate the install if necessary, visit www.bootdisk.com.
