Got a question that is rather technical, but since Dell hasn't been
able to help me, I thought I'd try here. I have a Dimmension 2400, XP Home
SP1 installed. System Restore is enabled; however it is randomly deleting
ALL my restore points. I did some checking inside Control Panel, and found
some logs that explain why this is happening. Unfortunately, I don't have
the technical knowledge to understand what the heck it means. All I know is
that the same unexpected error is repeatedly causing this problem.
Before I post the logs here, I'd like to mention that I have run
system file checker and nothing wrong was found. I also reinstalled system
file checker last night using the XP SP1 disc. But again this morning, all
restore points were deleted. Okay, here are the two logs:

Explanation
System Restore encountered an error when backing up a protected file.
This error causes System Restore to stop copying files and purge all
existing restore points. System Restore will automatically restart after the
next restore point is created.
User Action
System Restore will restart monitoring file changes immediately if you
manually create a restore point (if one has not yet been created).
To manually create a restore point
1. Click the Start button, point to All Programs, point to
Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
2. Click Create a restore point, and then follow the
instructions.
