system restore points are deleted

Guys,
My Think Pad R40 came with Windows XP Home Ed. For as long
as I have had this laptop, it has never had more than one
restore point. It is always the restore point with a time
stamp of the current date at the hour that I turned on the
computer.

Recently another person had a similar problem and Bert Kinney
(MS-MVP Shell/User) suggested checking the event viewer for
system restore messages. Here is a copy of the most recent
"sr: event (and it has a red X beside it)...

Here is an "srservice" event message. Note that it implies
a lack of disk space (NOT EXACTLY TRUE)

The System Restore service has been suspended because there is not
enough disk space available on the drive
\\?\Volume{58258f95-cb31-11d7-9bdf-00061bcb84ea}\. System Restore will
automatically resume service once at least 200 MB of free disk space is
available on the system drive.

This last message implies that I am low on disk space.
I CERTAINLY have enuf disk space on C:\...
C:\ main hard drive space formated NTFS
(i.e. where Windows is installed)
9.76GB Total 5.18GB Used 4.58GB Free
D:\ CDROM
E:\ a small 36MB FAT32 disk space common to my other O/S

QUESTION(s)

(a) Can I tell restore to ignore the E:\ drive ?
(b) If system restore ignores the E:\ drive, will my
system begin to save more than one restore point?
(c) Can I "FIX" desktop.ini so that the problem goes away?

Thanks,
Charles

I just found that I can exclude E:\ from monitoring.
Perhaps in a few days we will know if this improves the
situation.
Tnx,
Charles
