I created a powerpoint slide, saved the file and then later tried to open it
and got the following error:
Powerpoint cannot open the type of file represented by (filename.ppt).

Have tried to create a new slied and insert this one all to no avail. Any
ideas? Using Office 2003.

Try File > Open. In the drop down menu for Open, see if you get the option to
"Open and Repair."

Make sure that you have all the ServicePacks installed for 2003

Please tell us your PowerPoint / Windows version,
whether you are using vba, whether
your cows are in the corn paddock, or
anything else relevant.

Sandy,

Its a paddock full of corn, of course! A paddock is a field. So let me know
if the cows are in the corn field.

I have this same problem - no "Open and Repair" option available. All service
packs are up to date. This has happened twice in two days. We are relying
heavily on PowerPoint for our training business and it seems that this is a
2003 problem.

One thing that I have noticed, when I go into the Properties of the file,
and in the advanced section of the Summary, I get a message that pops up
"Invalid Pointer". This doesn't happen with uncorrupted PowerPoint files. Is
there a link? I don't know what an "Invalid Pointer" is....

A sick hunting dog? ;-)

If you're able to open these presentations, you don't have the same problem as the
one Sandy's responded to, though.

Try this:
