My pull-down favourites Menu

When I open/clickon my Favourites tab on the top menu bar Explorer generates
an error that closes it.
This problem happened in 2 quick steps.
1. first I clicked on my Favorites and the pane came down but when I hovered
for the folder to open, it didn't, until I clicked it once more. I thought
someone had changed the settings on me, although Iv'e never noticed it.
2. then within 15 minutes of the first it all stopped working. I mean the
Favourites altogether.
To recap; When I click on Favorites express crashes.
Can Someone help me please. Thanks in advance. Jeff.

Hi Jeff :)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, nor any error
messages that you may be getting when this happens, but, try the following
and see if it helps:

Can you add a new Favorite to the list in the Favorites pane? If not, what
happens? Any error messages?

If you have any 3rd party toolbars, such as Google, MSN, Yahoo, disable
them. If you have Yahoo Companion, uninstall it.

First:

Then clear your cache:

Delete view off-line files not the pages File, Save as.

and ...

Go to Start>Run> type in the following command and press enter

regsvr32 Urlmon.dll (notice the space between 32 and urlmon)

You should see a message that the file has been registerd successfully.
Ok out

If still not joy...your Favorites folder may have become corrupted, not
uncommon. Follow the instrctions here to crete a new one as per the
instrctions here:

Create a new Favorites folder as per the instructions here
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/archive/answers3.htm#favorites

or.......

1. Export your favorites to a folder on the hard drive where you will know
where to find them as a backup.
2. Log on using an administator account (a different one if the problem is
in one of the admin accounts).
3. Locate and delete the Favorites folder in the affected User account
Identity.
4. Log back in to the affected identity, open IE, import the saved
Favorites
5. Close IE and reopen and see if that helps.

also...

It could be caused by 3rd party software, such as malware/parasites, etc.
WOrk through the steps in the information here and follow all instructions
carefully:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:

Download and install HiJackThis. This is one of the most important steps.
Follow all instructions carefully. This program should be run in Normal
mode.

Please.. *DO NOT* post your log HiJackThis log to this thread or newsgroup.
*DO NOT* delete anything from the list yourself unless you are an
experienced user of this program or you may cause serious damage to your
system. It is important that you post your log on one of the HiJackThis
Support Forums below and allow the experts there to analyze it for you:

necessary steps to clean your system.

Be aware, your Anti-Virus won't detect all types of warez, Trojans, malware,
worms, etc and neither can other aware or spyware related programs such as
AdAware and SpyBot. They don't have the proper definitions. So even if you
run it and nothing shows up, it does not mean your system is clean. It
takes a series of programs to fully clean your machine. Some very aggressive
and damaging variants of malware can replicate themselves repeatedly, or
mutate, if not removed properly.

Hope this helps.
