My Pictures Slideshow Not Displaying All Pictures

T

Tom Magg

I have My Pictures Slideshow set-up to randomly display
pictures in a network directory called Family Pictures.
There are well over 20,000 pictures in this directory,
and they are arranged in order by year in sub-directories
from 1998 to 2004. When My Pictures Slideshow starts
displaying pictures after the default timeout, it only is
randomly selecting pictures from 1998 to about 2000
(about the first 10,000 pictures). It never picks
pictures from 2001 to 2004, although statistically 50% of
the pictures are in these directories so about every
other picture should be from these years. I have a
picture frame LCD set-up dedicated to displaying these
pictures, and would like to get it to display all of the
pictures, including recent ones.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have never seen this issue discussed before
and I really have no idea what the problem may
be. However...by default...Win XP only remembers
the settings for 400 folders. If you download and
install TweakUI it has an option that will allow you
to increase this setting (I have mine set on 5000).
After installing TweakUI...open it and go to...
Explorer/Customizations and enter you new number.

If you decide to try it...please let us know the result.

John,
I thought your solution sounded good because the first
10,000 pictures are in about the first 400 directories.
However, I tried your solution and there was no change.
Appreciate any other help.
Thanks,
Tom

Oh well...it must be a resource issue.

Maybe an adjustment to your paging file
would make a difference...I know it can
help with image editing and video games.
