My normal.doc isn't normal...

I am using Office 2000, Windows XP. For some reason, when I log onto Word &
click new file (or blank file) I get a copy of a file I made a few weeks
ago. If I go to
save it, the name is not normal.doc - I don't know what happened to the
blank document I used to get as soon as I signed on? The box next the the
font box (on the very left corner of the document) still reads normal, but no
matter how many times I select all & delete the contents of this page, it
never comes up blank again.
It appears that I do not have a macro virus as I did check (at least I think
I checked).
