My Favorite Folders pane empties automatically. Why?

My Favorite Folders pane no longer displays the four folders it always has.
I have tried to add them again but on subsequent logins the folders are no
longer displayed. This is unique to the main login account. Subsequent
login accounts do not appear to have the same problem. Why?
