My computer is shutting down in the middle of what you are doing...actually
it resarts. I have noticed this when I am on the internet. I have use to
have norton antivirus but switched to spydoctor as the machine has slowed
down so. we kepp spydoctor updated. it runs periodically but we also run a
full scan at least once a week. Nothing has shown up there. Help!

Hi

Have a look in the Event Viewer for any 'Errors'.

If you don't see any error messages, right click on My Computer, select
Properties and then the Advanced tab. Click on Settings under Startup and
Recovery and disable 'Automatically restart'. Next time your PC reboots,
you should see a Blue Screen. Could you please post the Stop Code that
accompanies that BSOD back here? With that your problem could be isolated.

Well, Spydoctor is an anti-Spyware not an anti-Virus, or they have
anti-virus no?.
Try to see your Power Options Schemes by going here:
Right click on Your Desktop and select Properties from the drop down list.
On the display Properties window click on Screen saver Tab then click on
Power Button and make your changes there.

Another: Right click My Computer and select properties from the drop down
list and click on Hardware tab then click Device Manager.
On Device Manager click to expand Network Adapter and select your Network
Interface card and right click or click Properties Button at the bottom.
Click on the power management Tab and make sure the option:
[ ] Let the computer turn off this device for power saving is unchecked.
HTH.
Let us know.

You need both antivirus and antispyware software.

Norton is probably the worst possible choice for an antivirus, at
least in my opinion.

SpyDoctor (if that is the exact name of your product) is referred to
multiple times on Eric Howe's list of Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware
Products & Web Sites at
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm so you probably
want to look for a more reputable product for this as well.

Good luck

You are presumably blue-screening, and you are set to reboot whenever that
happens. Right-click My Computer, and choose Properties. On the Advanced
tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery. Under System failure,
uncheck the box "Automatically restart.

Now when the problem occurs again, instead of restarting, you will get the
blue screen with diagnostic information. Post back with those details for
more help.

I am not at all a fan of Norton AntiVirus (in fact I think it's the *worst*
anti-virus program available), but if that's what you've done, you've left
your self without *any* anti-virus protection, and are extremely vulnerable.

Norton AntiVirus is, as its name implies, an anti-virus program, and
SpyDoctor is, as its name implies, an anti-spware product. They each protect
you against different things and neither is a substitute for the other. You
need both types of products, and also a firewall, for protection.
